From press release:
Centrifuge: An Examination of Art and Architecture
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 3, 6-9 p.m.
Exhibit: March 3- March 31
Art Institute of Portland
1122 NW Davis Street
What is the relationship between Art and Architecture? Where and how do they converge/diverge?
What defines the Architect? What defines the Artist? Are these definitions clear or even necessary? What is intrinsic to each in their ideology, conception, working methods, processes, materials, techniques, study, and discipline?
Our intent and hope in facilitating this exhibit is to promote, create, and celebrate this relationship and dialogue for both the participating artists and the viewer.
Through the implementation of diverse media, technique, materials, and tools, our selected artists have created works which personally reflect upon, investigate, and examine this relationship. Presented in this spectrum is work which integrates design, function, drawing, sculpture, painting, photography, video, collage, assemblage, and etching. This shows each exhibitor's own personal relationship, perception, and conception of Art and Architecture utilizing the media of their choice.
Respective themes include: light, space, structure, architectural theory, representation and rendering, design, construction/deconstruction, psychology of the situation of person/space/structure (anthropology), displacement, experience, the architectural process, and architecture as general subject matter for the artist. The Opening Reception will include light refreshments and music.
