PDX Bridge Festival's Learning Center exhibit "The Bridges That Built Portland" is on display from December 2 — 16 at AIA in northwest Portland. Please join us December 2nd for a First Thursday Opening Reception. We invite the public and members of the media to join us at AIA as we open our winter exhibition of Portland's early bridge history on the eve of the Hawthorne Bridge Centennial. The event includes speakers, actors, interactive installations, and projected media from this summer's festival. This is a chance to grab a glass of wine, sample new vintages by Seven Bridges Winery, and enjoy some tasty snacks courtesy of Whole Foods while engaging with festival planners and learning firsthand about our plans for the 2011 PDX Bridge Festival.

About the Exhibit:
As one of the world's great bridge cities, Portland is often defined and identified by her bridges. Each span is unique; each distinct in its design, function, engineering, history, and character. This year, PDX Bridge Festival took its first step toward a long-term plan to provide a permanent educational center dedicated to the bridges that make Portland such a compelling urban space. "The Bridges That Built Portland" goes beyond providing basic information to ask the question: What kind of city would Portland be if not for her bridges? Large printed photographs accompany engaging text, interactive models, and multimedia displays that explore the past, present, and future of our downtown bridges.

About the PDX Bridge Festival:
PDX Bridge Festival is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, dedicated to creating a citywide cultural arts festival that celebrates the Willamette River Bridges while harnessing the power of Portland's creative capacity. In 2010, we presented three weekends of art and events on and about the bridges of Portland, with nearly 60 events at 27 venues around the city. While reinventing the bridges as an amazing canvas for cultural offerings unique to Portland, we created an amazing new showcase for Portland artists, musicians and performers.
