Wondering if it’s safe to swim in the river? To eat the fish? Dr. Dave Stone and Sandra Uesugi from Oregon State University discuss risks and benefits to help you navigate through the health issues posed by the Lower Willamette River. They will provide practical advice for fish consumers and water recreation using fun, interactive audience participation.

Presenters:

Dr. David Stone, PhD, Oregon State University assistant professor in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology

Dr. Stone specializes in risk assessment and human health effects related to pesticides, metals and persistent pollutants. In addition, Dr. Stone is the Director of the Community Outreach and Education Core of the OSU Environmental Health Science Center. Prior to coming to OSU, Dr. Stone worked at the Oregon Public Health Division, where he was active in the fish advisory program and the Portland Harbor Superfund Site.

Sandra Uesugi, MS, Community Outreach and Engagement Program coordinator at Oregon State University's Environmental Health Sciences Center (EHSC)

With a background in environmental toxicology, Sandra Uesugi specializes in developing and delivering plain-language resources to bring new health research findings to the public. In June 2011, Sandra completed a second bachelors degree in nutrition at OSU and strives to integrate nutrition and environmental health to create more complete health messages for the public.
