@ Buckley Center Auditorium, UP Campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd.
The University of Portland Wind Symphony and Orchestra will perform ¬Å“Winter into Spring,¬Â a concert on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Buckley Center Auditorium on the University of Portland campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Wind Symphony, conducted by music professor Patrick Murphy and student associate conductor Peary Webster, will perform contemporary works for wind band, including Andrew Boysen's Twilight of the Gods, which features a stunning audio/visual realization of the Ragnarok myth from Norse mythology with visual art by Erik Evenson. David Maslanka's emotionally charged Give Us This Day will provide a heart-pounding conclusion to this portion of the concert.
The Orchestra, conducted by music professor David De Lyser, presents, ¬Å“This is Our Home,¬Â a program featuring expressions of musical nationalism in the 19th Century. Join us for a tour of the musical landscapes of Europe and Russia as we present BedÃ…â„¢ich Smetana's musical depiction of Prague's iconic VyÅ¡ehrad castle, Norwegian melodies from Edvard Grieg, Rimsky-Korsakov's stirring Overture on Russian Themes, and Jean Sibleius' patriotic symphonic poem, Finlandia.
