February 25: Derek Olsen & Matt Schlosky art opening @ Goodfoot

The Goodfoot will have an art opening, Last Thurs, Feb 25th from 4-11pm. The show will be up until March 23rd. The artists this month are Derek Olsen and Matt Schlosky.
Derek Olsen is a painter, silk screener and tattoo artist currently working at Black Hole Tattoo & Body Piercing in Portland, Oregon. He often paints as an attempt to better understand the things that inspire him…be it a flock of birds, japanese wood block prints, old tattoo flash or a brass band marching down the street. Derek has a desire to comprehend what it is, how it makes him feel, and why it moves him. This show is a series of work ranging from small to large, with a set of free standing privacy screens as a utilitarian way to make large scale art work more accessible. Please enjoy his attempts at understanding.
Matt Schlosky was born and raised in Rochester, NY. In December of 2005, he received a BFA in Industrial design from The Columbus College of art and Design. After graduation Matt decided that painting was where his heart was, and that the design world wasn't for him. Matt spent a year in the bay area painting and doing shows until July of 2008 when he landed in Portland. Matt's artwork is inspired by comics, video games, graffiti, music, society, nature, ancient cultures, and the people he has met. He believes in his heart that art is what he is supposed to do. Since he was a child he has constantly been creating, it's been his mediation.
