Seven Virtues
5936 NE Glisan Street

A Northeast Portland coffee shop is hosting a weeklong art show to raise funds and awareness of House of Dreams, a neighborhood no-kill animal shelter. Seven Virtues coffee shop will hang donated artwork from local artists starting at the end of May in an effort to raise funds for the shelter.

Chuck Sites got the idea for the art show when he found a stray cat, Zoey, in his neighborhood. After being told by the local Humane Society there was a six-month waiting list and to call Animal Control, Sites called Animal Control and was instructed to bring Zoey in. When he called to check on Zoey just a couple of days later, Sites discovered that Animal Control had scheduled Zoey to be put to sleep because of her skittish behavior. Sites was able to retrieve Zoey before her fateful date with death and found a loving home for his new friend. Zoey is now happy and healthy and shows no signs of skittish behavior, which was likely a result of being homeless.

This experience prompted Sites to advocate for animals who've been abandoned or neglected and raise awareness of the no-kill shelters in the area. All funds raised during art sale will go directly to House of Dreams to purchase food, litter and other needed supplies.
