Invasion of Place: Public Art Project

Sunshine Dairy Property
NE 20th and Pacific Avenue
Invasion of Place is a public art project created by Graham Klag and funded by the Regional Arts and Culture Council to educate the community about the non-native invasive plants plaguing Portland. On July 30th at the Sunshine Diary Foods property located off NE 20th Ave. and Pacific St., a crew of community volunteers will help remove Himalayan Blackberry Rubus discolor, from the site.
Then with the help of a sculptural armature made from bamboo, the artist and volunteers will collaboratively construct a sculpture with the removed non-native plant biomass. The piece will be a visual narrative placing the plant and its environmental impact in an historical and cultural context.
The sculptural installation event will take place at the restoration site on July 30th starting at 11am. The construction will culminate with a live performance by The Sarah Palins at 6pm, along with blackberry ice cream served courtesy of Sunshine Dairy Foods. To participate in the removal and restoration work please sign up and contract Graham Klag at graham@invasionofplace.com - or simply come by at any time during the day and enjoy the event. The sculpture will remain in place several weeks.
