Laugh Riot is an awesome night of rowdy fun comedy with some of the best stand-up comics in town! You need to laugh, and we can help you with that. Come see why comedy is exploding in Portland right now. This month featuring the hilarity of Virginia Jones, Cody Smith, Belinda Carroll, Jimmy Newstetter, and Marcia Belsky. Hosted with vim and a fair amount of vigor by Whitney Streed.

VIRGINIA JONES (headliner) — Virginia is a biomass. Mostly carbon. Also a Portland stand-up comic. She has worked as a boxing instructor, a swing dance teacher, a waitress, a DJ, a designer of country and western apparel, and also was the only vegetarian assistant manager Jack-In-The-Box ever had. She likes dancing, playing guitar badly, creating increasingly obscure Halloween costumes, and acting as a comedian and freelance subversive. She's funnier than John Belushi, Gilda Radner and Bill Hicks put together. She's funnier than all dead people. Virginia was first runner-up in the Portland Amateur Comedy Contest in 2007 and competed in the 2007 Portland Mercury PIZZAZZ talent show, and was a finalist in 2008's Comedy Knockout.

BELINDA CARROLL — Belinda is a Portland-based comic. In an over-the-top, observational style, she tackles everything from her Missionary Southern Baptist mother, her life as a teenage Lesbian Avenger, to her current incarnation as a fabulous queer femme who missed her calling as RuPaul. She has frequently has appeared at venues throughout the US, including headlining  for the 2009 Austin GLBTQ Pride Festival .

CODY SMITH — Cody is a Portland comic who refuses to be labeled by conventional measurements of what is or is not humorous. He is simply a man who wishes to share his innermost convictions through the ancient art of the group chuckle. Come and be reforged in the glorious fire of his magnificent talent and vaguely uncomfortable honesty!

JIMMY NEWSTETTER — Jimmy is, in one word, Truly Brilliant. Jimmy can be seen all over the universe blending a unique style of quick jokes, witty lies, 9th grade drama class, and a genuine love of laughter. He has been seen all over Portland, including the Bridgetown Comedy Festival.

MARCIA BELSKY — Marcia is a newcomer to the Portland comedy scene. Smart and funny, you will love her dry wit, deadpan sarcasm, and impressive hair.

WHITNEY STREED — A year ago, Whitney Streed stumbled into a Portland bar with a  comedy open mic. She has not stopped doing comedy since then. She does stand-up all over the Pacific Northwest. She relaxes by doing improv comedy at Curious Comedy Theater and producing comedy and variety shows around town.
