When a group of Portland's circus women joined forces in October, they knew their trapeze flying, hand-balancing, jaw-dropping, talent-filled, all-female debut show would be a hit.

What they didn't know is that they would sell out a 400-person venue every single night — leaving some folks wishing they'd only gotten tickets sooner. Circus Artemis All-Women Circus is proud to have entertained over 1,200 audience members this fall, from nearby (right here in the Rose City) and far away (one family drove 420 miles).

Here's some of the feedback on the October debut:

"I loved the show and will be watching for future performances. I am telling all my friends that they have to see it" — Emily MacKay, Portland, OR (Oaks Amusement Park donor)

"Not only was the show awesome, but the concessions were the best ever. Flat out." — Vandy Bennett, Portland, OR

"I love to see that if we work together as women we are stronger than when we are apart, and we can put a positive image out there [to show girls] they can do whatever they put their minds to!" — Email from an audience member

Now, in an effort to make sure no woman or girl goes uninspired and no man or boy goes unimpressed, Circus Artemis is back. From Fri. May 21, through Sun. May 23, the Rose City will be treated to five special shows, featuring amazing new acts (as well as hits from the last run) and a post-show fire performance. There's even a new venue, Staver Locomotive, with slightly more crowd capacity, breathtakingly high ceilings (if you saw the last show, you know lots of women are flying through the air) and a charming model train track to lend to the ambience.

The spring lineup includes: A-WOL Dance Collective (aerial fabric), Brittany Walsh (contortion/hand-balancing), The Circus Project — featuring Jenn Cohen (single point cloud swing), Daniela Steiner (partner acrobatics, static trapeze), Flamebuoyant Productions – featuring shireen press (poi, single point trapeze) and Indigo Teiwes (poi), Kricket Caffery (single point trapeze), Kyoko Uchida (partner acrobatics, static trapeze), Night Flight — featuring Stephanie Lopez and Gemma Adams (aerial), Purple Monkey Dishwasher – featuring Zephyr Nelson, Maria Thomas, Izzy Thomas and Matilde Thomas (juggling), Revolva (hula hoops), Shersten Finley (aerial straps), Sy Parrish (single point trapeze), and Tera Nova Zarra (strong woman). Circus Artemis also features Nomadic Theater Company's Sarah Liane Foster as the intrepid MC, all-female circus band Pie for Breakfast and an all-female tech crew.

Circus Artemis performers have trained with instructors from Cirque Du Soliel and the Ecole Nationale de Cirque in Montreal, taught at the renown San Francisco Circus Center, performed nationally and internationally — and keep Portland entertained while working with many local troupes and performance companies. Grab a ticket to the May show, and prepare to be dazzled and inspired!

Show times and dates: Fri. May 21 at 8 p.m. (doors 7), Sat. May 22: 2 p.m. matinee (doors 1) and 8 p.m. evening show (doors 7), Sun. May 23: 2 p.m. matinee (doors 1) and 7 p.m. evening show (doors 6)

My daughter is turning 21 on May 25th and this would be a rocking cool mother-daughter event. Of course, I won’t be seeing much of her on that day or the next. I would like to win tickets because it is hard to amuse a 21 year old and this would do it!

    Thanks so much,

I would love to win tickets because I love to see strong and beautiful women take artistic charge. And because the last show I saw was completely and utterly delightful. And if I don’t win tickets, I will buy them. :)

I would really love to win tickets. My 12 year old is a cirque doer herself and really, really wants to go to the show. We went to the last Circus Artemus show and loved it, but this time we’re having our own personal financial recession and can’t afford to go. Winning tickets would solve the issue!
