What:Â Monqui Presents is excited to announce Pink Martini Presents Oregon! Oregon! a Sesquicentennial Celebration at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, September 5th
In 1959–to celebrate the 100th birthday of Oregon–the Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company commissioned Grammy-Award-winning radio personality Stan Freberg to write a short 3-act musical comedy about the Beaver State. Fifty years later, a team of Oregonians, including members of PICA's Flash Choir and writers from Live Wire! banded together to write a new Act IV, complete with brand new songs and a rollicking plot.
With an all-star Oregonian cast backed by the 234th Army Band and Pink Martini, the world premiere staging of Oregon! Oregon! 2009 takes place across the state this summer in celebration of Oregon's Sesquicentennial, followed by a full set by Pink Martini.
Oregon! Oregon! is brought to you by Pink Martini, Oregon 150, The Kinsman Foundation, The Wessinger Foundation, Stoel Rives LLP, Hotel Lucia, and Hotel deLuxe in celebration of Oregon's 150th Birthday.
The Sesquicentennial Extravaganza features:
An opening set by the 234th Army Band
The debut performance of Oregon! Oregon! 2009
A full closing set by Pink Martini
Pink Martini, an Oregon-based ‘little orchestra' was founded in 1994 to play political fundraisers for progressive causes such as civil rights, the environment, affordable housing and public broadcasting. In the years following, Pink Martini grew from four musicians to its current twelve, and has gone on to perform its multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Canada and the United States.
