New Seasons Bike Fair
Saturday, August 20
11 a.m. – 4 p.m. | FREE | All Ages
@ Concordia New Seasons, 5320 NE 33rd Avenue

Get set to pedal back to school or gear up for this year's Bike Commute Challenge at New Season Market's Bike Fair. Locally owned and operated, New Seasons Market is partnering with Portland Bureau of Transportation Smart Trips, Community Cycling Center and Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) to inspire more people to bike by hosting a day of free bike-related activities.

Informational and hands-on activities will help anyone interested in safe and fun biking to feel more confident on two wheels.

Free Bike Fair activities include:

Bike Maintenance and Advice: Learn how to fix a flat, adjust soft brakes, clean a noisy chain or get those gears shifting smoothly again.

A bike bucket building workshop: Build a handy pannier system using a five-gallon plastic bucket recycled from New Seasons Market's deli. Representatives from SmartTrips will lead free workshops, offering step-by-step instruction, every half hour from noon to 3 p.m. Carry groceries home in DIY bike bucket.

Meet nationally renowned Portland biking advocate Mia Birk, author of Joyride: Pedaling Toward a Healthier Planet. Birk will be on site with Joe Kurmaskie, aka the Metal Cowboy. Meet this dynamic cycling duo and take home to a signed copy of Birk's book.

Map a Safe Route: Tap the expertise of Smart Trip representatives to map the best routes for commuting by bicycle, mass transit, ridesharing or walking.

Pedal Powered Bike Activities: Check out New Seasons Market's fender blender and taste a smoothie whirled by wheels. Make a colorful art masterpiece with a pedal powered spin-art bike, provided by local eco-paint company YOLO Colorhouse.

Get ready for the Bike Commute Challenge: Gather information about BTA's annual September Bike Commute Challenge, a city-wide workplace cycling competition.

Recycle an old bike: Bring in old bikes to donate to the non-profit Community Cycling Center, where they will be refurbished and reused or redirected away from our landfills.
