GOOD NEWS! Our voices were heard! Our goal - a Library District with permanent and stable funding - is within our reach. Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen has announced a revised proposal which will allow us to vote for a Library District in November of 2012.
First we vote for another temporary Levy in May at the current rate, which, unfortunately, will trigger cuts in our current staff and service levels; but then, if the Levy is successful, we will vote in November for the formation of a permanent Library District at a rate that will restore full service to all Libraries. The two-step process keeps our Library alive while giving us the time we need to educate the public about a Library District.
We need your continued enthusiastic support to succeed. Help us ensure stable funding for our world-class Library by attending the Multnomah County Commissioners meeting and supporting the revised proposal.
The presentation of the Library funding proposal (temporary Levy to be followed in November with permanent District) should begin at 10:25 am. Try to be there by 10:00 am or earlier to get parking. We need a big turnout to show the County Commissioners and the media our ardent support. This is the beginning of the process that leads to a Library District - our ultimate goal. Bring yourselves, your family, your friends - we want to overflow the room!
Please forward this to your friends, relatives, and co-workers - anyone you know who will join us in supporting our Library. We feel this revised proposal has the best chance of succeeding, but it won’t work without our visible support from the beginning.
Thank you for your past and future commitment to the Multnomah County Library.
