No doubt you noticed the titan-sized billboards around Portland of bearded men, beautiful women and grinning children holding axes, chainsaws and saws. There was no indication of what the billboards were meant to advertise except for an average-sized logo tucked away in a corner of the board above the words “Spring 2011.” Portland soon learned that the advertising campaign was to promote the new stadium of Portland's very own Major League Soccer Team: the Portland Timbers.

One year into their marketing campaign, we'll hear from Cory Dolich of the Portland Timbers and Jelly Helm of Jelly Helm Studio about where they are now, and the marketing lessons learned from launching a professional sports franchise that got a larger-than-life start.

About Cory
Cory Dolich, Vice President of Business Operations and Marketing for the Timbers, marks his fourth season with the team. Prior to working with the Timbers, Cory spent six seasons with the Sacramento River Cats (the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's) as their Senior Director of Ticket Development and Retention. In his current role, Cory is responsible for the day-to-day operation and execution of the marketing and promotional strategy for both teams, including media planning, creative development, brand management, digital programming, game entertainment, and promotional program activation. Cory graduated from Tufts University in Boston with a degree in Economics.

About Jelly
Jelly Helm, creative giant and principal of Jelly Helm Studio, is the former Executive Creative Director of Wieden+Kennedy in Portland and Amsterdam, Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University Adcenter, Group Creative Director at The Martin Agency, and Founder/Director of W+K 12 – Wieden+Kennedy's experimental in-house school.
