Push for New Food Co-op in Portland Gets Help from Local Musicians

Efforts to fund start-up costs for the Montavilla Food Co-op are well underway with "Folk for Food," a benefit concert at the Milepost 5 creative community on Sept. 24. Come contribute to making the Montavilla Food Co-op a reality by listening to incredible folk musicians the evening of Friday, Sept. 24 at Milepost 5, 823 NE 82nd Ave., from 7-11 p.m. ($10-$20 sliding scale donation at the door.)

“Folk for Food” is a benefit concert to celebrate the community endeavor to bring the Montavilla Food Co-op to the Montavilla / East Tabor Neighborhood. This effort began in September 2009 and will culminate with the opening of the first new food co-op in Portland since 2001. The evening will include fun, food, festivities and folk music provided by Lillian Soderman, Felecia and the Dinosaur, Bootz Orchestra, and The Happening.

"We are incredibly excited to help bring a source of fresh, local, affordable food to the Montavilla neighborhood, not only during the farmers market season, but year-round," said outreach committee member Jennifer Polis. "And basing that on a cooperative model is ideal for the neighborhood."
