Once again this year we’re offering you the chance to sit in on our exclusive MusicFest NW in-studio sessions, and we couldn’t be more excited to tell you who’s dropping by! Needless to say, those sick days you’ve been saving up are about to come in handy…

Charles Bradley might seem like a name and a voice that have come out of nowhere with the release of this year’sNo Time for Dreaming. But Bradley’s done some hard travellin’, all the long while never losing sight of his musical dream. In short, he’s earned it and that’s exactly what comes through on the new record on cuts like “This World (Is Going Up in Flames)” and “Heartaches and Pain”. He plays MusicFest Thursday night at the Aladdin Theater, where he’ll be backed by the Menahan Street Band– but you can catch them first in our studios on Wednesday afternoon beginning around 12:30. We don’t recommend missing it!
Two of Portland’s finest return soon with new recordings, as Blind Pilot and Blitzen Trapper both release their respective albums on September 13th. They’re also both playing the Crystal Ballroom at MusicFest (Blind Pilot Saturday, Blitzen Trapper Friday), and both in our studios Thursday afternoon!
Beginning at 2:00, Blind Pilot will be showcasing songs from We Are the Tide, the follow-up to their rather unexpected smash hit of a debut, 2007′s 3 Rounds and a Sound. Based on everything we’ve heard thus far, we have no reason to suspect any kind of sophomore slump.
We’ll start Blitzen Trapper‘s session around 5:00 Thursday, and hear songs from the upcoming American Goldwing, their sixth album and third to be released on Sub Pop. From the sounds of things it’s the band continuing to perfect their modern-vintage sound, in the process once again upping the ante.
Want us to save you a seat or two? All you have to do is send an email to us at opbmusic@opb.org. Please include the artist’s name for the session(s) you’d like to attend in the subject line. Space is limited, so we’ll reserve spots on a first come, first served basis. See you there!
