Pink Martini & Storm Large Joining Occupy Portland For “This Land Is Our Land” Rally | Pioneer Courthouse Square

Looks like Occupy Portland is getting a little PDX star power this coming week with Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Pink Martini, Storm Large, and others holding a “This Land is Our Land” rally in Pioneer Square.

You can see a video of Storm Large singing a pro-Sam Adams themed version of “Stand By your Man” here from a rally in 2009.

It wasn't long ago that Portlanders would have deemed the idea of a collaboration between the Oregon Symphony and Storm Large — the enfant terrible of Portland rock music — the most unimaginable of pairings.

But after her surprising and wildly successful orchestral debut before a sellout crowd at a 2010 Valentine's concert, and an appearance at the orchestra's "Countdown to Carnegie" benefit concert earlier this season, the orchestra and Large are now among one another's biggest fans.

It's a Storm Large event, so it's safe to say the audience should expect the unexpected. Some show tunes? Probably. Some classics from the Great American Songbook? Of course. Something edgier? For sure. More than that we really can't say, because a diva like Storm Large always reserves the right to tinker with her set list right up until it's time to walk out on stage.

Ticket availability is again very limited, and a sold-out performance is likely. Buy tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Wonderball With Storm & The Balls Holiday Party | December 19, 20

The Wonderball is coming up soon. This year has two nights of Wonderball-ness with Storm (Large) and the Balls. Friday's show is all ages, and both have Mayor-elect Sam Adams, who has apparently never seen a party invitation he did not like (like us).

From Wonder Ballroom:

Novmber 4: The Barfly Nominees are in and The Award Show is Today at Mt. Tabor Legacy

This is an invite-only event. Normally, I would not post invite-only here, but it was already on the Barfly website, and hey–you might know one of these people and possibly mooch one of their VIP tix…I mean, congratulate them. And why am I not up for “Most Good Writer”–sounds like it was written specifically for my illiteracy (rhyming on-timing!).

My lovely fall sickness seems to be nearly gone (the contagion is for sure), so I'm going to do my best to get out there tonight as several of these people are friends of mine (Atom 13, Malice, Chris Haberman, Phil Ragaway, William Slater – “hottest item not on the menu”= ha!). If so, expect some good pictures this coming week.

Now Non-contagious, Julian
