Stories range from hilarious, to sexy, to gross, to sweet, to scary, filled with sweet poignance, and a mix of all of the above.
One of the best things about BACKFENCE storytelling? We get to bring people from all parts of the community together in one show!
Check out this sweet lineup!
SARAH MARSHALL — Host of one my very favorite podcasts,YOU’RE WRONG ABOUT and creator of the live sold-out-in-every-city it goes to, A MASSIVE SEANCE. Sarah will be sharing a story about her year of drawing an image a day for each episode of Sex and the City – in PEN.
ANDREW DICKSON — Impresario of the arts in Portland for a long ass time, Moth host, auctioneer, adman, creator of a hilarious new solo show about Life Coaching. Using visuals, Andrew will tell how he accidentally invited a mob of hooligans to a modern dance festival in Nottingham, England.
BRI McKIZZiE — Go ahead and watch just the first two minutes of THIS STORY to experience the energy and wonder of BRI. Trust me it’s a day brightener. So stoked to welcome her back to our stage. Bri will be part of a new choral storytelling format I devised. It’s real fun, you all.
MATT SHEEHY — What do you get when you combine a Forester, a songwriter, and one a talented, handsome magician (yes, magician AND musician)? You get one of the best formulas for an entertaining human being ever in Matt, who also created the solo show, soon to be movie, ABERDEEN. He’ll be sharing his story with songs about growing up in Alaska, friendship gone sideways, and the snowy challenges and sweetness of it all.
JENNA FLETCHER — Where do I even begin with one of most dry, smart, and funny poets there is in Portland? She was a bona fide hit in the last mixed media show. There were seriously minute long pauses for some of her lines. No joke. We had to have her back. She’ll be telling 3 2-minute prose stories over the course of the night. Work this good calls out to be savored in bites.
OCTOBER MOORE — Portland’s Voice Over Artist extraordinaire (including loads of video game voices you’d recognize!), acted in every major TV show to hit the scene, and she is a proud basketball mom to her son. And look at October conquering the storytelling realm. She’ll also be a part of the choral story format!
DARSHANPREET GILL — An esteemed high school science teacher who enjoys baking and caring for her two cats. She has won BACKFENCE Roulette a few times and is definitely an audience fave. CHECK out THIS very hilarious and cringy story about getting an IUD, it’s oh so topical and real. She will be the 3rd member of the spicy & delicious Choral Story!
All of this goodness and community is hosted by me, Frayn Masters with music by CHAACH!
